Leading Performance & Energy Efficiency with High Network Port Density on a Ruggedized 2U Chassis

The IP Network Server NSN2U combines network port density, processor performance, and advanced technology features in a compact 2U rackmount chassis, ideally suited for network data applications with intense I/O and compute performance requirements. Supporting the Intel® Xeon® Processor 5500 and 5600 series, the NSN2U combines greater performance and power efficiency to provide improved performance-per-watt over previous-generation rack mount servers.

The NSN2U is an excellent choice for network security applications—including intrusion detection/intrusion prevention, VPN/firewall, and unified threat management solutions. It is also well-suited for enterprise application acceleration and content caching, and is an ideal platform for running Telco SoIP, including IMS, IPTV, video on demand (VoD), SIP application servers, IP-PBX, and IP-PSTN gateways.

To add to the many benefits already inherent in Kontron’s IP Network Server family, the NSN2U introduces several new key features such as support of PCI-E Gen2, Power Management Bus, DDR3 memory, hot-swap/redundant fans, and increased memory and storage capacity.

AutoGrab Event Log Collection Utility
1) Download the grab .iso file from the link provided in the autograb.htm file. 2) Follow the instructions to make the USB stick bootable. 3) Boot the server to the USB stick. If boot priority is enabled in the BIOS it should boot to the USB stick. If it doesn't boot to the USB stick then go to the BIOS and set the boot order to boot from your USB device first. 4) A script will automatically run after the system has booted into SLAX Linux and gather the event logs to the /capture directory. Note: Do not remove the USB stick until the system shuts down. It is during these last few seconds that the logs are copied to the USB stick. These logs can be submitted to technical support to help diagnose system issues remotely. The email address for technical support is included in the autograb.txt file.

White Papers

Software Optimization Advances Power Efficiencies in Global Telecom Solutions
Sophisticated telecommunications systems offering higher bandwidth capacities, more intelligent processing architectures and more complex implementations result in greater power demands. And more power means higher operating costs, as well as more complex engineering to accommodate thermal management. As a result, power efficiency has emerged as one of the key areas for long-term improvement in telecom applications. Reduced energy usage means lower costs and diminished environmental impact; in turn, potential savings for carriers are significant when evaluated against the ‘always on’ central office or data center.

Maintaining High Performance and Reliability: Innovative Vibration Suppression Technology for Communication Rack Mount Servers
The Communication Rack Mount Server (CRMS) division at Kontron has an ongoing practice of analyzing potential issues that could jeopardize how its servers adhere to NEBS requirements or the overall quality and reliability of the system itself. The experts at Kontron are committed to testing and reviewing all components to make sure each is up to the company’s high standards. As part of this continual analysis process, the design team has revealed some significant concerns associated with system vibration that needs to be given serious consideration when choosing a reliable server.

IPMI and Open Source Tools: Sorting Out the Confusion
Improving Server Management with the Right IPMI Tools for Your Implementation. The aim of server management is to help service systems via controls and information retrieved from sensors so that problems can be diagnosed early, quickly and, before they become overly critical. IPMI (Intelligent Platform Management Interface) is a standard interface used by many vendors to support all of these server management functions, either locally or remotely. IPMI-based management activities take place in the management controller firmware, instead of using the extra bandwidth from the main processor, which would reduce its production capacity. Using IPMI for server management enables the management of any large numbers of servers without spending the extra time and cost of on-site visits, and administrators can manage many different vendors’ systems with the same software, thereby reducing each server’s total cost of ownership.
