The OSM-S i.MX8M Plus from Kontron Electronics is a versatile system-on-module that combines the benefits of the OSM standard with the high performance of the NXP i.MX8M Plus processor in a compact 30 x 30 mm form factor. It offers an optimal solution for applications where space requirements, energy efficiency, and computing power are equally important.

Performance & Architecture

Equipped with a modern processor architecture – 4x Arm® Cortex®-A53 @1.6 GHz for real-time applications – as well as fast LPDDR4 memory, the module is designed for demanding computing tasks and 3D graphics applications. The integrated Neural Processing Unit (NPU) with AI performance of up to 2.3 TOPS enables advanced AI and machine learning applications directly on the module.

Communication Interfaces

The OSM-S i.MX8M Plus offers a wide range of interfaces, including digital I/Os, serial ports, PWM, two SDIO connectors, two Gigabit Ethernet ports (GbE), and two CAN FD interfaces. One of the LAN ports supports Time Sensitive Networking (TSN), ensuring precise and time-critical data transmission - an advantage for industrial real-time applications. Thanks to TSN, the module can be used flexibly, as in addition to wired connections, wireless transmission paths such as 5G cellular are also supported.

Areas of Application & Advantages

The module’s RISC processors, based on Arm® architecture, combine outstanding energy efficiency with high computing and graphics performance, making the OSM-S i.MX8M Plus ideal for cost-sensitive embedded applications. Comprehensive integration of all key functional units, along with adherence to the OSM standard, provides maximum flexibility and simplifies the implementation of customised board and application developments.
