At the field, or edge level, data is collected by industrial computers, e.g. by gateways, which process, filter, analyze and act on these data in real-time right at the device.

Edge, fog and cloud applications demand increasing computing power. The interfaces to sensors or machines often require non-standard solutions. Especially in smaller machines, space is limited or restricted in some dimension and need a special solution.

Today, the connection from the sensor device to the embedded cloud takes place via real-time data communication, on sensor and edge level - for example Industrial Ethernet or fieldbuses - and gateways , which provide the transformation of real time data into the informational area.

COM Express® basic

Formerly also known as ETXexpress®, Kontron offers a broad product range for the COM Express® basic form factor modules(125 x 95 mm) that adhere to the type 2 and 6 pin-out definitions. Click here for more details about old and new names for Kontron’s COM Express® basic modules.

With the new pin-out type 6 definition, COM Express® basic offers USB 3.0 and substantial more display output interfaces. That makes it interesting for multiple display solutions like Digital Signage or cost-efficient high-data transmission applications like industrial vision solution with high-speed USB 3 video cameras.

The newest additions to Kontron’s offering of COM Express basic modules include: the COMe-bIP# that features Quad Core technology, USB 3.0 and up to 3 independent Displays. The COMe-bSC# which supports up to 8x USB 2.0 and ECC system memory as well as being Intel® vPro capable.

Kontron is long-time member of PICMG® and originator of the working group that developed the the original COM Express® standard in. 2005
