At the field, or edge level, data is collected by industrial computers, e.g. by gateways, which process, filter, analyze and act on these data in real-time right at the device.

Edge, fog and cloud applications demand increasing computing power. The interfaces to sensors or machines often require non-standard solutions. Especially in smaller machines, space is limited or restricted in some dimension and need a special solution.

Today, the connection from the sensor device to the embedded cloud takes place via real-time data communication, on sensor and edge level - for example Industrial Ethernet or fieldbuses - and gateways , which provide the transformation of real time data into the informational area.

CAN-bus option

The CAN-bus option is an add-on interface that allows integration of WIENER chassis and power supplies into a CAN field-bus network for remote monitoring and control.

The CAN-bus option enables Kontron Hartmann-Wiener crates and power supplies to be part of a distributed control network. With this interface, a host computer can monitor and control a large number of crates through a resilient CAN network, accessing key system parameters like voltages, currents, temperatures, fan speeds, and error/status conditions. Because it supports up to 126 crates on one network and includes advanced messaging features (broadcast, priority, automatic error reporting), it is suitable for large installations with many power crates.

Parameters Accessible Remotely (depending on power supply model): crate ID, voltages & currents, over/under-voltage trip points, current limits, temperature sensors (up to 8 per crate in VME 6000), fan speeds (average & individual), status signals, errors, configuration & adjustment

Communication Protocol: Intelligent bus protocol (CMS-CAL compatible) supporting error messaging, broadcast & group functions, priority levels, equal rights among crates
