Contact SupportA visit to the technology group's headquarters highlights research, jobs, and innovation "Made in Austria" in Linz
Linz, Austria, August 26, 2025 – Kontron AG, a leading global IoT technology company, welcomed Austrian Federal Chancellor Christian Stocker and Upper Austrian Governor Thomas Stelzer to its corporate headquarters in Linz. The visit focused on the European security initiative Readiness 2030, the importance of establishing a more autonomous technological foundation in Europe, and the economic implications of investing in security and defense systems.
Key discussion topics includes IoT applications, embedded computing systems, and digital infrastructure and software solutions developed at the Linz site. Due to its close integration of hardware and software development, Linz has become one of the most important development and competence centers in the Kontron Group.
With KontronOS, a secure operating system, KontronGrid, an IoT management platform, and FRMCS technology, the next-generation standard for the digitalization of railways, Kontron has already laid the foundation for tomorrow’s solutions. Discussions also covered 5G-based Network Access Devices (NADs), which support the automotive industry’s transition to 5G, as well as green technologies for eMobility and solar energy. In the defense sector, Kontron presented its latest rugged microservers and VPX-based high-performance platforms.
Chancellor Christian Stocker emphasized: "The 'Upper Austria Security Alliance' demonstrates how security should be approached today: as an interplay between politics, business, and research; as an investment in future technologies; and as a catalyst for prosperity." Every investment in our defense has a dual impact — it strengthens our security and reinforces our economic and industrial base. I would like to thank Governor Thomas Stelzer for this initiative and Kontron AG for being a strong partner demonstrating how innovation 'Made in Austria' can make our country safer and stronger economically.”
"Kontron technology is everywhere! This applies to both our intelligent products and services, with which almost everyone comes into indirect contact every day, and to the 60 Kontron sites worldwide that we manage from Linz. Our strengths are reliability and data security, forming the basis for controlling and networking innovative devices and applications in critical areas such as medical robotics, high-speed trains, and the defense sector,” said Hannes Niederhauser, CEO of Kontron AG.
Governor Thomas Stelzer emphasized Kontron’s role within the European security initiative:
“Kontron stands for security through research, development, and technology – and thus for a successful path into the future. This is particularly important considering that, according to the European Commission, investments in security-related research and development in the EU currently amount to only 7.6 percent of the U.S. level.”
With 7,000 employees worldwide, annual revenues of €1.8 billion, and a presence in 23 countries, Kontron is one of the leading providers in the Internet of Things (IoT)/embedded computing sector. Its Linz headquarters combines research, development, and consulting, and serves as the centerpiece of its cross-technology solutions portfolio, "Made in Austria."
The visit highlighted how companies like Kontron contribute to Europe’s security and also strengthen Austria’s position as a hub for business and research.
