Eching, Germany, March 28, 2007 The Kontron NotePAC Ultra is the latest slimline model in Kontrons rugged NotePAC family and features the extremely high-performance and energy-saving Intel® Core Duo processor. This versatile and extremely rugged notebook, which has a magnesium alloy housing, complies with the MIL-STD810F standard and therefore has excellent thermal and mechanical protection for extreme environments. The long operational battery life and numerous wireless interfaces make the unit highly autonomous in the field. Target market segments for the Kontron NotePAC Ultra are in field services, the utilities, processing industries, professional outdoor sports, public services and defense. Application areas include (off-)road business, mobile data acquisition and data visualization.
The new fanless Kontron NotePAC Ultra is equipped with the state-of-the-art 1.66GHz Intel® CoreTM Duo T2300 processor with 667MHz FSB, which is designed for use in high-performance mobile applications requiring low power usage. the Kontron NotePAC Ultra implements the Intel 945GM chipset and offers up to 2GB DDR-RAM. Graphics is provided by the Intel 945GM chipset with up to 128MB shared video memory; for even higher performance, a fast PCI Express Graphics ATI Radeon X1400 Mobility GPU with 128MB video memory is available. Kontrons sunlight-readable display solution for the Kontron NotePAC Ultra increases the LCD brightness to 450 nits (cd/m²) by improving the efficiency of the LCD backlight without increasing power consumption, while reflections caused by sunlight or other light sources are simultaneously reduced. The Kontron NotePAC Ultra can be equipped with a 14.1-inch (1,024 x 768) or high resolution 15-inch (1,400 x 1,050) LCD screen and may be used outdoors, including in direct sunlight. It can also be equipped with a resistive touch-screen. Wireless communication via embedded GSM, GPRS, UMTS and WLAN allows access to next-generation wireless data networks almost everywhere in the world and an internal GPS module helps with navigation. Bluetooth 1.2, 2x PCMCIA , 2x USB 2.0, Firewire, COM, LPT and VGA complete the feature set. The media bay holds a combo or dual CD/DVD-RW drive; alternatively it can be fitted with an additional battery to extend the Kontron NotePAC Ultras mobile operating life between charges to six hours.
Several features make the Kontron NotePAC Ultra one of the best built-to-survive notebooks on the market: the full magnesium alloy case and tough rubber corner bumpers enable the system to survive 3-foot drops. The mechanical shock mount of the Kontron NotePAC Ultra hard drive module can absorb shock forces without damaging the disk surface while a built-in G-sensor provides additional shock and vibration protection in extreme situations and if the unit is dropped by parking the HDD heads in a fraction of a second, thus avoiding HDD head crashes. Individually sealed I/O ports and doors and a fully sealed rubber keyboard with an optional LED-backlight make the Kontron NotePAC Ultra IP54-compliant and provide it with protection against rain and dust, even while working outdoors. The Kontron NotePAC Ultra complies with TUV, UL and CUL regulations and provides EMC protection (CE class B, FCC class B). Data safety is ensured by several security features, such as the built-in TPM 1.2 chip and SmartCard reader for user identification.
The rugged docking station makes the Kontron NotePAC Ultra ideal for in-vehicle applications and adds to the versatility of the unit by providing additional ports: 2x RS232, 2x USB, LPT, Line in/out, USB based video capture port and a pass through antenna port for a wireless modem.
