Where We Come From

1959–1980s

Founding & Specialization

W-IE-NE-R founded in Burscheid (1959), Hartmann Electronic in Stuttgart (1971) - Focusing on nuclear electronics and telecom systems.

Technological Expansion

Hartmann begins backplane production; W-IE-NE-R develops NIM, CAMAC, and FASTBUS systems for scientific research.

1992–1997

International Growth

W-IE-NE-R rebrands under new leadership; U.S. subsidiary established in Ohio to support the North American market.

2000–2006

CERN Collaboration

Development of radiation-hardened VME64x power supplies for CERN – over 2,000 units deployed, many still in use today.

2008–2013

Integration & Strategic Focus

W-IE-NE-R joins a Swiss electronics group; both companies shift toward rugged and high-reliability computing systems.

2009-

VPX & Advanced Backplanes

Hartmann develops VPX backplanes for defense, research, and critical industrial applications.

2023-

Kontron Acquisition

Both companies acquired by Kontron AG and rebranded under the unified name Kontron Hartmann-Wiener GmbH.
