Control of Tool Measuring Devices

When a new tool is used in a machine, it must deliver the highest precision from its very first use. To ensure this, powerful tool measuring devices are employed, which optically detect and accurately measure the tool.

The electronic control developed by Kontron Electronics is an integral part of an internationally established premium tool measuring system. It manages the highly precise control of illumination throughout the entire measurement process and ensures optimally coordinated, stable, and reproducible lighting. Only under precisely defined lighting conditions can the camera reliably capture the finest contours and deliver precise measurement data. This control thus makes a crucial contribution to process reliability, repeatability, and quality assurance in manufacturing.

It is primarily used in industrial manufacturing, where precise tool measurement is essential. This helps to ensure the highest quality standards in tool production and machining.

Control Systems for Liquid Valves

In building technology, the inflow of liquids, gases, or steam is controlled precisely and efficiently by intelligent electronic drive systems.

The innovative electronic control system from Kontron Electronics precisely manages the motor that controls the position of the regulating valve. Thanks to accurate detection of the actuator position, reliable valve regulation is possible. The control system receives corresponding commands from a higher-level control system. The required setpoint can be provided either digitally (OPEN/CLOSE) or analog (0–10 V / 4–20 mA).

The control system for liquid valves is used in a wide range of applications. In building technology, it enables precise regulation of heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems. Furthermore, it ensures automated delivery of liquids, gases, or granulates in industrial production processes and guarantees reliable regulation of fresh water and wastewater flows in supply and disposal systems.

Industrial Baking Ovens

Manufacturers of modern industrial baking ovens today face the challenge of not only ensuring user-friendly operation, but also achieving the highest energy efficiency and low-maintenance performance. This enables quality standards and productivity to remain consistently high. Additionally, a flexible and reliable solution is required, one that allows for the integration of various machine functions as well as networking across multiple locations.

Kontron Electronics developed an innovative touch display unit for this purpose, based on a Cortex-A single-core processor and Linux as the operating system. The solution enables intuitive control via a capacitive 7" or 10" display. Power electronics are connected via CAN, while the Ethernet interface ensures network communication and remote maintenance. Digital inputs and outputs allow for direct integration of safety features such as door contacts, emergency stop, or status lights. An integrated audio system provides acoustic notifications and warning signals. Data is reliably stored on internal memory or SD card, and a USB port is available for updates. The rugged stainless steel housing with customizable glass optimally protects the electronics from external influences.

Control of Liquid Valves

Modern water faucets at sinks increasingly feature innovative infrared sensor technology. This technology allows for comfortable, touchless operation, which actively helps conserve water. In facilities with seasonal use, such as hotels, it’s important to carry out regular flushing processes to prevent the formation of legionella and maintain the odor trap.

The electronic control system developed by Kontron Electronics, based on a microcontroller with an integrated infrared sensor, allows flexible programming of water flow and duration. The microcontroller controls the inlet valve and monitors the battery status, ensuring the valve only opens when there is enough power.

This control system meets high standards for hygiene and comfort, supporting operational and legal requirements. It enables contactless water dispensing in hotels, restaurants, butcher shops, bakeries, hospitals, and public restrooms, ensuring strict hygiene standards are maintained.

Control Systems for Automatic Doors

Intelligent control solutions in buildings ensure the safe and reliable operation of automatic doors. The drives for these doors feature dynamic and continuously monitored regulation of both the drive itself and all connected sensors.

The control systems developed by Kontron Electronics meet the highest safety standards. Whether it's glass sliding walls, sliding doors, revolving doors, or automatic swing doors, each door is equipped with an individual safety concept that includes specific requirements for the electronic control system. To achieve this, the controls are designed redundantly and are equipped with two independent processors (CPUs). If one CPU fails, the second CPU takes over and ensures the door moves to a defined safe state. To guarantee the highest safety standards and flawless operation, the software components for both processors are designed and implemented by two independent development teams. The systems undergo comprehensive testing according to all relevant standards and are finally certified by TÜV, ensuring full compliance with all legal requirements.

These solutions are used wherever comfort and safety are required, such as at airports, hospitals, banks, and shopping centers.

Modern Industrial Washing Machines

As part of product optimization, the previous 4x20 character display from Kontron Electronics was replaced with a modern TFT color display featuring touch functionality. The integrated capacitive keypad enables fast and convenient operation. This innovation ensures intuitive control, a clear display of wash programs, and flexible customization to meet various requirements.

The focus was on developing a modern, VT100-compatible user interface that provides a familiar operating sequence, contemporary design, and increased comfort. The display and IO board are controlled by a microcontroller, with the software for the CPUs being programmed in-house and adapted to the expanded functions.

The modules are manufactured at our site in Hungary, while the final assembly of the display units takes place in Frickenhausen. This ensures consistently high quality and rapid availability of our products.

This solution is ideally suited for large laundries, hotels, and cruise ships, where robustness, reliability, and user comfort are essential.
