Edge, fog and cloud applications demand increasing computing power. The interfaces to sensors or machines often require non-standard solutions. Especially in smaller machines, space is limited or restricted in some dimension and need a special solution.

Today, the connection from the sensor device to the embedded cloud takes place via real-time data communication, on sensor and edge level - for example Industrial Ethernet or fieldbuses - and gateways , which provide the transformation of real time data into the informational area.

The BL Pi-Tron CM5 from Kontron Electronics is based on the powerful Compute Module 5 and has been specifically developed for demanding industrial applications. The board stands out with its significantly enhanced performance and versatility, making it ideal for complex tasks. Thanks to its modern design and the wide range of system expansion options, the BL Pi-Tron CM5 can be integrated flexibly and reliably into a variety of system environments.

Performance & Architecture

A key feature of the board is the M.2 B-Key slot with PCIe connectivity, allowing for flexible expansions. The high-performance interfaces are specifically designed for industrial settings and enable reliable integration. The memory configuration ranges from 1 GB to 16 GB LPDDR4-4267 SDRAM with ECC, as well as from 0 GB (CM5 Lite) up to 64 GB eMMC flash memory, with eMMC bandwidth reaching up to 200 MBps - significantly outperforming the Compute Module 4.

Communication Interfaces

Thanks to modern communication capabilities such as PCIe Gen 2, Wi-Fi 2.4/5 GHz, and Bluetooth 5.0 BLE, the BL Pi-Tron CM5 is perfectly equipped for a wide range of application scenarios. These interfaces offer maximum flexibility and ensure straightforward integration into existing systems.
