The Pi-Tron CM4 from Kontron Electronics is a powerful single-board computer developed specifically for demanding industrial applications. It offers a flexible platform for a wide range of use cases and stands out thanks to its high compatibility with the Raspberry Pi ecosystem. Due to its architecture, the board is ideally suited for IoT and automation solutions, impressive with simple integration and the backing of a large developer community.
Performance & Architecture
The board is based on the Raspberry Pi Compute Module 4 and features a Broadcom BCM2711, 4x Arm® Cortex®-A72 64-bit SoC running at 1.5 GHz. Depending on the variant, 1 GB, 2 GB, 4 GB or 8 GB LPDDR4-3200 SDRAM is available. For data storage, the Pi-Tron CM4 supports both SD cards and eMMC storage options of 8 GB, 16 GB, or 32 GB. Through an M.2 B-Key slot with PCIe connectivity, standard modules such as Google Coral AI Edge TPU or Hailo-8™ AI modules can be integrated, enabling customized solutions for machine vision and machine/deep learning. The board can also be optionally expanded with certified Wi-Fi/Bluetooth®. Preparation for LTE modules, including SIM card and external antenna connection, allows seamless use in IoT applications.
Communication Interfaces
The Modbus-capable RS485 interface ensures reliable data exchange with other system components. The CAN bus interface supports FD (Flexible Data Rate), providing increased efficiency and higher data rates. The Raspberry Pi standard 40-PIN GPIO header offers flexible options for industrial expansions. For displays, both an HDMI slot for standard monitors and an LVDS display connection via an adapter board are available.
