The AL Pi-Tron CM4 from Kontron Electronics is a powerful single-board computer based on the Raspberry Pi Compute Module 4, equipped with a Broadcom BCM2711, 4x Arm® Cortex®-A72 @1.5 GHz. The system is specifically designed for industrial applications and is delivered in a robust housing for DIN rail mounting. Varios RAM and eMMC options are available, and the device can be flexibly expanded.
Performance & Architecture
Compared to the previous generation, the Compute Module 4 offers significantly higher performance. It supports up to 8 GB LPDDR4-3200 SDRAM and up to 32 GB eMMC storage. The graphics unit supports H.265 (4Kp60) and H.264 (1080p) decoding as well as OpenGL ES 3.0. The system uses Raspbian Linux (not pre-installed).
Communication Interfaces
The AL Pi-Tron CM4 from the Automation Line series offers a comprehensive range of interfaces: 1x HDMI 2.0, LVDS display connector, 1 Gbit/s Ethernet, 10/100 Mbit/s Ethernet, USB 2.0, RS232, RS485 (Modbus-capable), CAN 2.0B/FD, digital I/Os, as well as optional Wi-Fi/Bluetooth and an M.2 slot with PCIe connection for modules such as LTE or AI accelerators. Power is supplied via 24 V DC.
Fields of Application & Advantages
Typical applications include automation, IoT gateways, industrial communication, edge computing, mechanical engineering, as well as infotainment and M2M gateways. Advantages are the compact design, flexible expandability through I/O modules, excellent price-performance ratio, and strong community support with numerous software examples.
