Secure Access straight from the Factory: Kontron equips TeamViewer Gateway with KontronOS

KBox A-251 and KBox A-151 IoT gateways form the basis for agentless access concept

Linz

Linz, April 23, 2026 – Kontron, a leading global provider of IoT/embedded computer technology (ECT), is providing the hardware platform for a new solution from TeamViewer that enables secure remote access to industrial systems. The plug-and-play solution, unveiled at Hannover Messe 2026, offers agentless remote access to OT systems based on the zero-trust principle – without the need for software installation on the target devices.

The preconfigured gateway runs on KontronOS, Kontron’s hardened, Linux-based operating system, which was developed specifically for secure operation in industrial environments. It ensures reliable connectivity and data security even when dealing with legacy systems such as Windows XP – without any changes to existing machinery or plants.

The combination of preconfigured software and hardware simplifies access to existing systems whilst simultaneously addressing key security requirements. The solution is immediately ready for use via Plug and Play and is continuously kept secure and up to date without any changes to existing machines or systems.

KontronOS supports modern security concepts such as role-based access control, secure update mechanisms and the isolation of applications via container technologies. This allows systems to be managed centrally and updated without compromising the integrity of critical systems. At the same time, the solution can help companies address regulatory requirements such as the EU Cyber Resilience Act, for example with regard to secure software updates, system hardening and controlled access concepts.

The TeamViewer solution is based on the established KontronOS gateway, which already is in industrial use in thousands of installations. This combination creates a consistent security architecture from the end device right through to the cloud.

The KBox A-251 and KBox A-151 hardware systems are robust IoT-gateways designed for industrial use. With interfaces such as DisplayPort, two USB-A 3.2 ports, USB-C and two 2.5 Gbit LAN sockets, they provide the necessary connectivity for a wide range of industrial environments. Thanks to the close integration of TeamViewer software and KontronOS, the gateway is pre-configured and delivered ready for use.

“KontronOS and our gateways form the trusted platform on which software solutions such as TeamViewer Agentless Access can be deployed securely and reliably in industrial environments. This collaboration demonstrates how hardware and software expertise can work together to create real added value for industrial digitalisation,” says Bernhard Günthner, EVP Software & Solutions at Kontron.

The solution is suitable for industrial use and scales also for large rollouts. In addition to secure remote access, users benefit from extended application possibilities such as remote programming, system maintenance and collaborative support.

The solution will be presented live at the Bechtle stand at Hannover Messe 2026 until April 24 inclusive.
