Kontron expands KPanel S series with a variant featuring a 21.5" display for demanding on-machine visualizations

Ismaning, Germany, February 26, 2026 – Kontron, a leading global provider of IoT/Embedded Computer Technology (ECT), is expanding its KPanel S Panel PC series with a 21.5" display variant. With the new screen size, Kontron is specifically targeting applications that require extensive visualizations, multiple process views, or detailed user interfaces directly on the machine. The KPanel S is designed for continuous use in industrial environments and combines robust construction with modern computing power. Depending on requirements, efficient Intel Atom® processors up to powerful Intel® Core™ CPUs are available, so that even computationally intensive visualizations can be reliably executed in parallel with complex background processes.

The new 21.5" display offers brilliant image quality and remains easy to read even in difficult lighting conditions thanks to its anti-glare and anti-fingerprint surface. The PCAP touchscreen can be operated with up to 10 fingers, input with gloves is also supported, and the risk of incorrect entries is effectively minimized by drop and palm recognition. The hardened glass meets protection class IK06 and is designed for continuous industrial use even under the toughest conditions.

Like all variants of the KPanel S series, the new 21.5" version is also IP65-protected all around. The closed metal housing with passive cooling enables maintenance-free operation, a long service life, and high system availability. The systems are designed for different support arm concepts; I/O access is conveniently provided via a rear flap with hinge. A two-stage strain relief ensures secure cable routing.

An expansion unit is available as an option for customer-specific adaptations to the machine workstation, allowing additional command and signaling devices such as switches, displays, RFID modules, or emergency stop switches to be integrated.

The KPanel S-AML/ADN offers an attractive price/performance ratio with processors from the Intel Atom^® x7000(R)E series, Intel® Core™ i3 N series, and Intel® N series. For particularly performance-intensive applications, the KPanel S-RPL with 13th Gen Intel® Core™ processors is available.

Equipped with DDR5 RAM, M.2 SSDs with up to 1 TB (RAID 0/1 optional) and an optional CF card slot, the Panel PCs also meet high storage requirements. Wireless communication can be implemented via WiFi 6 and Bluetooth.

The KPanel S series offers two DisplayPorts, two 2.5 Gigabit Ethernet interfaces, and four USB ports, including two USB 3.2 ports, as standard. On the KPanel S-AML/ADN, one of these is a USB-C port. An additional IP65-protected USB interface on the front of the device and a power button with status LED are available as options.

The completely flush, scratch-resistant display design prevents dirt edges and makes cleaning easier – an important aspect for use in industrial production environments. The new 21.5" version expands the portfolio with a particularly clear operating solution for demanding HMI applications.

All systems in the KPanel S series are based on Kontron 3.5" SBCs, which are also used in other Kontron Panel and Box PC systems. This makes it easy to transfer existing software concepts and reduces maintenance costs.

With the optional QIWI toolkit, the Panel PCs can be operated as intuitive web panels. In addition, KontronOS, a hardened Linux®-based operating system that meets increased cyber security requirements, is available. A maintenance-free CMOS battery solution is available for real-time clock (RTC) applications or use in extended temperature ranges.
