The energy at Mobile World Congress Barcelona 2026 was unlike anything we’ve seen and we’re proud to say that Kontron was right at the center of it all. Held March 2–5 at Fira Gran Via in Barcelona, this year’s MWC celebrated the evolution of connectivity, from robust private and public 5G infrastructures to Artificial Intelligence (A.I.) at the edge. Like every year, the event provided an incredible platform for us to showcase how Kontron is empowering tomorrow’s networks with rugged, high-performance hardware and software solutions for mission-critical markets.
Despite travel disruptions affecting flights across parts of the Middle East and Europe ahead of the event, the atmosphere on the show floor remained vibrant, and the energy and engagement at our booth never slowed down.
A Hub for Innovation and Collaboration
Our team from all over the world had the pleasure of engaging with global leaders, telecom operators, system integrators, and industry visionaries all united by a shared mission: deliver seamless, secure connectivity in an increasingly digital world. Across hundreds of exhibitors and thousands of attendees, the conversations and opportunities at MWC reinforced just how critical edge computing and 5G platforms are to future digital infrastructure — from private industrial networks to next-generation telco deployments.

ME1310 High-Performance Multi-Edge Platform
Our ME1310 continued to attract attention as a versatile, compact multi-access edge server designed for demanding edge use cases such as Open RAN, private 5G, and real-time analytics. Our experts explained that it is built on powerful Intel® Xeon® technology, empowering operators and enterprises to process high-bandwidth workloads right at the network edge, reducing latency and enhancing performance across applications.
Whether deployed along railway tracks, industrial campuses, or communication hubs, visitors were impressed by the ME1310 and how it demonstrated reliable edge compute that can be distributed across complex networks to support the growing demands of next-generation connectivity.
The part that resonated with attendees was its ability to enable deployment in railway environments using FRMCS, the next-generation digital railway communication standard. By supporting secure, low-latency wireless communications between trains, control centers, and trackside equipment, the ME1310 ensures continuous data flow for signaling, real-time monitoring, predictive maintenance, and operational safety, helping rail operators modernize their networks while maintaining consistent reliability.

S1901 Platform for Extreme Environments
Another centerpiece of our exhibition was the S1901 rugged edge server — engineered to deliver reliable computing in the most challenging environments. With a wide operating temperature range, robust thermal management, industrial-grade design, and IP67 protection, the S1901 can be deployed on moving vehicles, making it a truly mobile solution. Available in two main variants the COBALT™ S1901 (for defense/military applications) and the EvoTRAC™ S1901 (for heavy-duty industrial/in-vehicle applications), its combination of ruggedness and enterprise-grade computing power drew keen interest from sectors such as defense, transportation, and remote infrastructure, where reliability and performance can’t be compromised.

Private Mobile Networking: The Show-Stopper
Many discussions revolved around our Private Mobile Networking (MPN) software, which quickly became a show-stopper at our booth. Designed to deliver secure, high-performance 4G and 5G connectivity for enterprises and industrial environments, it’s built on a cloud-native 5G core architecture that enables reliable, low-latency communications on-premises and fully integrated with radio access networks and edge platforms. This flexible solution empowers organizations to deploy dedicated private networks for real-time automation, asset tracking, autonomous robots, and advanced monitoring, accelerating digital transformation while keeping full control over their data and network infrastructure.

Kontron’s 5G Portfolio Turned Heads
Our 5G portfolio also took center stage at MWC, featuring modular 5G platforms, high-performance M.2 modules, and the rugged Kontron K-Cell gateway. Visitors were particularly interested in the M.2 modules providing plug-and-play cellular connectivity for applications ranging from industrial IoT and remote monitoring to private wireless networks. Our experts explained how they enable devices and edge platforms to quickly access reliable 5G with low latency and high bandwidth. Complementing these modules, the K-Cell gateway was on display to show how it offers an all-in-one, deployable solution that houses M.2 cards and additional connectivity components, delivering scalable 5G capability wherever edge compute and mobile networking are needed. Together, these offerings highlight Kontron’s commitment to flexible, high-performance 5G connectivity as a foundation for next-generation networks.

Radio Head & RS1310 Outdoor Rugged Platform
We showcased our radiohead units alongside the RS1310 multi-access edge platform, both installed on a pole to highlight their readiness for outdoor and harsh environments. Built with ruggedized design and integrated networking capabilities, these platforms bring both connectivity and compute directly into the field, enabling true edge deployments that maintain high performance and reliability even in extreme conditions, taking edge computing and 5G networks out of the data center and into real-world operations.

Driving Conversations Around Real-World Challenges
Across every discussion at the show, one thing was clear: organizations are ready to move all the way from promise to practical deployment, whether they’re building private 5G networks, modernizing telco infrastructure, or integrating edge compute with AI and the cloud.
Visitors were particularly interested in how Kontron’s platforms can:
Support private and hybrid network deployments across industrial, transportation, and enterprise sectors.
Deliver high-performance edge computing with secure, scalable software & hardware ecosystems.
Enable reliable connectivity in rugged, distributed environments — from rail corridors to oil and gas operations.
