Future topics such as human-robot collaboration, digital transformation in manufacturing and service robotics were the core topics of automatica 2018 (automatica-munich.com). Münchner Messe could be satisfied with the high participation rate of more than 46,000 visitors and 890 exhibitors, which corresponds to an increase of seven percent each. According to the trade fair organizers, the fact that 20 percent more visitors came from abroad, is a sign of the increasing internationalization of automatica.

The positive atmosphere in the industry could be felt everywhere: 96 percent of exhibitors and 98 percent of visitors rated the fair as excellent, very good or good. 97 percent of the visitors confirmed, that automatica has developed into an international business platform on which concrete investments are made. (https://automatica-munich.com/press/newsroom/press-releases/automatica-beats-all-records-again.html). We, Aaronn Electronic GmbH from Puchheim near Munich, can expressly confirm this estimation. This year we participated in the automatica fair for the second time and are very satisfied with the result.

Individual solutions for numerous application areas

Aaronn Electronic celebrates its 25th anniversary this year. During this time, we have developed from a pure distributor of industrial PCs to a system integrator. Kontron was always on our side as a reliable partner in these steps. Today, Aaronn is one of Kontron's most successful sales partners and system integrators for embedded systems in Europe. In 25 years of partnership we have jointly realized a large number of interesting customer projects.

This close and successful cooperation was also reflected in Aaronn's presence at the automatica 2018 from June 19-22. Kontron's comprehensive portfolio of hardware, software and service solutions, combined with Aaronn's expertise and flexibility, enables us to jointly implement individual customer applications, while exploiting the full range of possibilities.

Kontron products were an essential part of our trade fair portfolio. Aaronn Electronic sees itself as a flexible system integrator for industrial PCs (IPCs) and realizes industrial computer platforms for customers from various industries for more efficient production processes. This is also one of the core topics of automatica.

IoT gateways are in demand in many scenarios

Our focus this year was on industrial Box PCs for process control, based on Kontron's K-Boxes. In addition, there were the smart IoT gateways for secure connection to the cloud. IoT gateways are particularly in demand in the field of industrial automation, as well as in the transport or communication environment, whereby the requirements are almost identical in all fields of application. Small, robust gateways are required here. They should have standard interfaces and offer various connectivity options, such as LoRa, WIFI or LTE, to name but a few. Properties such as the long-term availability of the products and the reliability of the components used, are particularly important.

Robust and industrial 19" rackmount solutions (ZINC, HPW, KISS) for automation were another highlight at our booth. Due to their industrial design, they are also suitable for use in harsh environments. One application example are industrial 3D printers. Aaronn has realized an interesting application in this environment at voxeljet. The company, headquartered in Friedberg, Bavaria, is one of the leading manufacturers of industrial 3D printing systems for the tool-free production of modules and models for metal casting. Kontron systems are used as central control elements in the 3D printers. You can find the detailed story under the following link: https://www.kontron.com/applicationstorydetail/voxeljet

In this environment temperatures are often extreme, the mechanical strains caused by dust or shock and vibration are high. The modular system concept of Kontron products allows simple and quick adaptations, which Aaronn carries out individually, according to customer requirements. The systems can also score with high computing power up to Intel® 7th Gen Core i3/5/7 or Xeon® processors.

Rugged monitors are essential for many applications

We also have been presenting industrial Flash solutions as well as single board computers and motherboards, that can be flexibly integrated into an application. Modern HMI (Human-Machine-Interface) solutions for visualization, which we implement with Kontron's FlatClient series or FusionClient series, rounded off our product portfolio at automatica. Areas of application include machine control, visualization of production data, quality control and many more. The greatest possible flexibility results from the different installation options such as standalone or fixed installation in an environment or control cabinet.

Panel PCs and monitors for visualization in automation processes play an increasingly important role in many processes. Kontron products with modern design, PCAP Touch and other outstanding features such as RFID readers and WIFI located directly behind the glass surface stand out from the competition. They are thus the optimal basic products for the individual solutions that Aaronn develops for its customers.

Some final words

As a provider of Embedded Computer Technology (ECT) we are still an "exotic" at automatica. Nevertheless, we have already been pleased with very positive visitor reactions last time. This track record has been the decisive factor in almost doubling our stand space at this year's automatica. We were able to make interesting contacts again and got into conversation with interesting companies. Many are directly or indirectly involved with Embedded Computer Technology and need industrial computers for their applications. Some of our customers are active in the fields of automation and robotics and were also represented at the fair as exhibitors. The Aaronn stand therefore became a platform for the exchange of experience and a communication hub for our customers. A positive experience for everyone involved.

This year automatica was again a great success for us as exhibitors. Together with our visitors and partners we will now work on implementing ideas and finding and developing concrete solutions for inquiries.
