Aircraft Interiors Expo Hamburg is the leading international trade fair for aircraft interiors. More than 500 international exhibitors presented their products and services in 7 exhibition halls this year. The exhibition spectrum includes seats, textiles and lighting as well as catering systems or cockpit doors. In addition, there are safety and emergency equipment as well as communication systems.

The focus of interest was the brand new ACE Flight™ 1600 Gateway Router, which complements Kontron's ACE Flight product family. This new avionics network platform has been specifically designed to provide security and connectivity throughout the aircraft. The ACE Flight™ 1600 Gateway Router consolidates wireless connectivity, switching, routing and security in a compact package. Kontron offers airlines, business jet operators and service providers a uniform and powerful platform for new applications and services. An open architecture, standards-based modules and a long service life are essential features. Kontron offers two software options for maximum flexibility. This is a turnkey variant that supports network routing, wireless, security and user interface functions. In this version no development of user software is required. The other variant is an application-ready solution with integrated Linux operating system, board support package, drivers, libraries, APIs, built-in test and sample code. Users can install third-party applications or develop their own. The ACE Flight 1600 Gateway Router accelerates time-to-market by providing integration-capable network functions for the respective aircraft on one platform. Partnerships for even better customer service
Turnkey cabin WiFi system solutions, aircraft installation kits and Supplemental Type Certificates (STCs) as well as Inflight Entertainment and Connectivity (IFE&C) equipment are increasingly in demand by airlines. Kontron has been working closely with Carlisle Interconnect Technologies (CarlisleIT) in this area for some time. An even closer partnership is agreed in a recently signed partnership agreement. Thanks to the cooperation agreement, uniform solutions are available to global customers much faster. This "One Stop Shop" approach enables in-flight systems for wireless IFE, connectivity, flight operations and other applications to be developed and implemented much faster. Not only airlines but also system integrators, connectivity service providers and software media companies are addressed. The integrated WiFi system solution consists of the Kontron ACE Flight™ server and several Cab-n-Connect™ wireless access points.

Kontron also announced at Aircraft Interiors Expo 2018, that Global Eagle Entertainment will use the ACE Flight™ 4608 server as a key component for the next generation of its Airconnect™ system, which will provide airlines with high-speed Ku-band connectivity. Airconnect supports the provision of Internet connectivity, IPTV and wireless IFE services for passengers and crew, while ACE Flight 4608 functions as the Server Management Unit (SMU) in the Global Eagle System.
