Based on the best-in-class Hailo-8™ AI accelerator in combination with an NXP i.MX8M quad core processor, the new single board computer pITX-iMX8M-AI-H8 was developed as an AI inference platform for advanced Edge AI solutions. The smart and compact platform guarantees best-in-class AI performance and versatile interfaces for IoT gateway-applications.
The integrated advanced Hailo-8™ AI processor, performing at 26 tera-operations per second (TOPS) at a typical power consumption of less than 2.5 watts, enables the new pITX single board computer to run at performance levels previously only possible in the cloud. This offers customers a new level of high-performance, scalable AI-edge applications. The pITX-iMX8M-AI-H8 is perfectly suitable for a wide range of market segments such as Industry 4.0, smart cities, smart retail and more.
Along with preinstalled drivers and BSP, the complete software toolchain is available under Hailo’s developer zone website. Hailo’s developer zone includes numerous pre-trained neural networks (“model zoo”), a bit–accurate simulator and performance tool, the Hailo dataflow compiler, and the Hailo “Tappas” high performance application toolkit, enabling the highly efficient implementation of innovative AI solutions at reduced time-to-market and engineering costs.
On the hardware side, the new pITX-iMX8M-AI-H8 motherboard features NXP’s dual or quad core CPUs based on the Arm® Cortex®-A53 architecture with up to 1.5 GHz. The Cortex M4 co-processor and full 4K UltraHD resolution make the board the perfect foundation for sophisticated applications. It offers enhanced connectivity through two Gigabit Ethernet interfaces as well as superior graphics performance. Thanks to its small form factor, offering PCIe, USB 3.0 and a Micro SIM interface, Kontron’s pITX-iMX8M-AI-H8 is a cost-optimized Arm® SBC solution, specifically for embedded applications in the manufacturing industry, and a cross-market IoT gateway for small server solutions.
The pITX-iMX8M-AI-H8 enables processor configurations on 8M QuadLite or 8M Dual in either industry or consumer versions. It has 32 KB L1 instruction cache and L1 data cache per core. The Cortex® M4 co-processor supports 16 KB L1 instruction cache and L1 data cache per core with 256 KB Tightly Coupled Memory (TCM). 4 GB LPDDR4 3200 MTps memory down storage, 64 GB eMMC Memory v5.1 Nand Flash and the soldered RAM and flash memory make the pITX-iMX8M-AI-H8 perfectly suited even for extremely rugged applications. There are extensive display connection options like a LVDS dual channel, a mini display port and a HDMI port. Further interfaces are two USB 3.0 ports at the back, two USB 2.0 ports via the internal header, 8 GPIOs and one S/PDIF internal header, audio line-in, line-out and microphone input.
