Kontron at the embedded world 2019: IoT Solutions for Digital Transformation

From Edge to Cloud – from Standard to Custom Hard- and Software

Augsburg, Germany, January 17, 2019 Kontron, a leading global provider of IoT/Embedded Computing Technology (ECT), will be presenting numerous highlights to its visitors at embedded world 2019, from February 26 to 28, 2019 in Nuremberg, Germany, at the Kontron booth in Hall 1, No. 478: Among other things, Kontron will be showing Computer-on-Modules based on standards with the latest processors from leading manufacturers. The current portfolio of scalable IoT edge computers and gateways as well as the latest HMIs and Panel PCs with the latest x86 and ARM processors will also be presented. A new 1U Short Rackmount Industrial Server of the KISS family and a Box PC with an Intel® processor of the 8th generation complete the range of novelties at the booth. For the Industry 4.0 and digitization strategies of its customers, Kontron will demonstrate the IoT software framework SUSiEtec as well as machine learning with object recognition using artificial intelligence.

At the Nuremberg trade fair, Kontron will be presenting Computer-on-Modules of all leading standards such as COM Express®, SMARC 2.0 and Qseven as well as motherboards and single-board computers in various price and performance classes with the latest processors from the chip manufacturers Intel®, AMD and NXP.

For the first time, Kontron presents a Qseven module with the latest NXP iMX8X processor. The module is characterized by its low power consumption and, thanks to the powerful NXP i.MX8X processor in dual- or quad-core configuration, provides an ideal basis for networked terminals in industrial applications. Kontron is thus expanding its COM line based on the Qseven standard, which is particularly distinguished by its low power consumption and was first introduced in early 2018. Kontron supports the Qseven form factor in order to offer customers who already use it the opportunity to opt for new CPU technologies with Kontron products.

Kontron will also be presenting new products and development services for Raspberry Pi. The developer kit based on a single-board computer expands the Raspberry Pi's compute module with a variety of industry-typical interfaces, not only including USB, Ethernet 10/100 Mbit, RS 232 and RS 485, but also a CAN fieldbus interface. In addition to the developer kit, Kontron also offers customer-specific developments of carrier modules and systems for Raspberry Pi.

Kontron will also be presenting scalable IoT edge computers and gateways based on the latest COMs and SBCs with different performance classes using different processors: these range from single core ARM processors to Intel Atom® and Intel® Core i processors to server class performance. They are therefore suitable for a wide range of applications including AI, machine learning, image processing and edge server computing.

The highlight of the trade fair appearance will be a new Box PC based on the NXP LS1028 processor with up to 5 TSN-capable 1GbE ports. This enables companies to create universal IoT edge computers and gateways with a seamless connection between the field level, operational technology (OT) and information technology (IT).

The wide range of industrial monitors and Panel PCs with x86 is now complemented by versions with ARM processors with display sizes from 4.3 to 10 inches. These systems with NXP iMX.6 processors from ULL to Quadcore with a very good price-performance-ratio are used in a wide range of applications in machine and device controls for cost-sensitive industries and applications.

A new 1U Short Rackmount Industrial Server KISS based on the 8th generation Intel® Core processors complements the existing 2U and 4U systems.

Visitors at Kontron's booth at embedded world 2019 in Hall 1, Booth 478 will learn how Kontron, in association with the S&T Group, uses the latest technologies, products and services based on open standards to support companies in implementing their digital transformation and IoT strategies. The IoT software framework SUSiEtec connects the devices at the booth with the Microsoft Azure Cloud. Several live demos will show a motor control with TSN and OPC UA as well as examples of machine learning for object recognition with artificial intelligence (AI) at the edge with Intel® OpenVINO middleware in combination with Intel® Core i processors and the neural compute engine Intel® Movidius Myriad X VPU.
