Kaufbeuren, Germany, June 26th, 2002 - Kontron Modular Computers is now introducing the CompactPCI CPU CP605 in 6U format, but not just for the high-end market: Equipped with the Intel? Pentium? 4 processor in the 478-pin microFCPGA housing, the CP605, as the first CompactPCI CPU on the market, makes use of the currently fastest and most powerful processor technology. The board supports both the desktop version (2 to 3 GHz) as well as the Mobile Pentium? 4-M (1.2 GHz to 2 GHz).

Due to this design compatibility the CP605 offers unprecedented flexibility in fulfilling an extensive range of different application requirements. Without compromising the latest processor performance, the CP605 enables optimised solutions for cost sensitive applications to be obtained, as well as for demanding requirements, where power consumption and higher temperature environments can?t be disregarded.

Apart from the performance capability of the processor, the new CPU features extensive communications interfaces: 2 x Gigabit Ethernet, 1 x Fast Ethernet and 5 x USB 2.0 are on-board. Here, USB 2.0 realises forty times the bandwidth of the USB 1.1 interface which is in normal use today. In addition, the CP605 supports the PICMG 2.16 specification.

The Pentium? 4 is complemented by Intels 845G chip set. The extreme graphics architecture integrated in this chip set enables balanced memory use between the graphics and the system to guarantee optimum performance. The memory is maintained in DDR-SDRAM technology and can be expanded up to a maximum of 2 GB (of which a max. of 1 GB can be soldered).
The CP605 will be available from September 2002 and can be operated both with system master functionality and also in the "passive mode", i.e. in the peripheral slot in the CompactPCI system.
