At the field, or edge level, data is collected by industrial computers, e.g. by gateways, which process, filter, analyze and act on these data in real-time right at the device.
Edge, fog and cloud applications demand increasing computing power. The interfaces to sensors or machines often require non-standard solutions. Especially in smaller machines, space is limited or restricted in some dimension and need a special solution.
Today, the connection from the sensor device to the embedded cloud takes place via real-time data communication, on sensor and edge level - for example Industrial Ethernet or fieldbuses - and gateways , which provide the transformation of real time data into the informational area.

New CFO at Kontron
Eching, near Munich, January 11, 2011. The Supervisory Board of Kontron AG has appointed Dr. Jürgen Kaiser-Gerwens (48) as the company's new Chief Financial Officer. Dr. Kaiser-Gerwens, who was born in Detmold is married and has two children. He studied economics before holding various managerial positions as a financial expert for companies with global operations, and in various sectors. Most recently he was active as CFO at an internationally renowned, renewable energy technology company.
"With his many years of career experience and broad economic expertise, as well as his proven specialist knowledge in the IT and controlling areas, he will provide sustained support to Kontron AG on its path of centralization and globalization," commented CEO Ulrich Gehrmann.
Dr. Jürgen Kaiser-Gerwens will take up his new post on February 15, 2011.
