Kontron successfully closes the sale of its subsidiary AP Parpro Inc.

  • Discontinuation of Non-ECT-related manufacturer of cables and cable harnesses
  • Next step in focusing on strategic core competencies

Eching near Munich, August 1st, 2012 – After the successful sale of the manufacturing business in Malaysia in the first Quarter 2012, Kontron made a further step towards the strategic focus of its core competences and sold the US-based subsidiary AP Parpro Inc., an assembling company of cable and cable harnesses, as well as, components on July 31st, 2012.

Ulrich Gehrmann, CEO of Kontron AG: „AP Parpro’s business of assembling cables and cable harnesses does not have synergies with our core business of systems and solutions for the ECT-market.”

The sale of AP Parpro. Inc. includes the Mexico-based production facility and is performed in the way of a management buy-out as a 100% share deal as of July 31st, 2012. The purchasing price of about 7,5 Mio. USD will further improve the working capital of the Kontron Group and be EBIT neutral.

Ulrich Gehrmann: “The company had been acquired as a manufacturing entity in the acquisition of AP Labs. Kontron’s focus for AP Labs is ECT-solutions and -systems for aviation, aerospace and defense. AP Parpro Inc., a non-ECT-related company, does not fit the focus of Kontron anymore. The divesture puts both parties in a position where they can completely focus on their core competencies for the benefit of customers, employees and shareholders.”

For Kontron, the market in the United States remains significant and important. With this divesture, the subsidiary Kontron America Inc. is now clearly concentrated on high-margin systems and solutions.

Ulrich Gehrmann: „We will continue to increase our focus on our growing markets – be it regional, in vertical markets and up the value chain.”
