Kontron CP6006-SA Octo Core Serverblade: Excellent Performance-Per-Watt Ratio and High Data Throughput

Intel® Xeon® D-1500 processor family CPUs allow for excellent virtualization support in demanding environments

Augsburg, July 18, 2017 – Kontron, a leading global provider of Embedded Computing Technology (ECT), has introduced its Kontron CP6006-SA, a new generation of 6U server class CPU platforms in the CompactPCI format. The Kontron CP6006-SA is based on Intel® Xeon® D-1500 product family CPUs with 2 to 16 cores and thus offers an excellent performance per watt ratio. It has been designed specifically for multi-CPU server-class applications in demanding environments. Thanks to the long availability of the Intel Xeon D-1500 processor family and easy maintenance of the modular CompactPCI eco-system it offers a scalable yet affordable high-performance option for servers and computing nodes offering excellent virtualization support.

The CP6006-SA boards will initially be offered with 8-core CPUs with 1.6 GHz at a thermal design power (TDP) of 35W and a more powerful variant with 2.0 GHz and a TDP of 45W respectively. Intel offers a wide variety of CPUs from frugal dual-core units with extremely low power consumption up to a high-performance option with 16 cores. This highly scalable range, combined with a number of processor setting options, allows users to customize both performance and power consumption of their platform exactly to their individual needs.Up to 64 GB of DDR4 ECC memory allows for excellent virtualization support, when many virtualized tasks require separated memory. This amounts to a fourfould increase compared to the memory support usually found in CompactPCI systems. This makes the CP6006 the ideal choice fo servers and computing nodes, where ordinary server systems do not meet the requirements for robustness and longevity.

The product variant CP6006X-SA offers a significantly higher data throughput via PCI Express 3.0 and 2x 10 Gigabit Ethernet on the backplane. This makes the Kontron CP6006X-SA the ideal solution for compute intense applications such as sonar, radar and video stream analytics in commercial avionics and the defense sector. Further fields of applications are telecommunication, industrial automation and medical image processing.

The Kontron CP6006-SA supports Kontron’s Security Solution APPROTECT. It is based on an integrated security chip, which in tandem with a specifically developed software framework provides full IP, copy and reverse engineering protection. Additionally, Kontron's APPROTECT Licensing enables new business models such as 'pay per use' or time based trial versions, as it can be used to easily enable or disable features via a predetermined set of variables. For additional hardware and software security measures Kontron’s CP6006-SA also ships with a Trusted Platform Module (TPM 2.0) as standard.

The Kontron CP6006-SA is available now as a prototype for testing purposes and will enter regular production in the months to come.
