Kontron Mobile Computing Launches Next-Generation Field Lite Handheld Computer

Tough, Windows-based Device Suited for Demanding Field Environments

EDEN PRAIRIE, Minn., April 9, 2002 - Kontron Mobile Computing, Inc. (OTC BB: KMBC), a leading supplier of rugged, mobile computers for field-deployed professionals, today announced the newest version of the Field Lite - a lightweight, Windows-based handheld computer tailored for field use.

"There are many different handheld devices on the market, but the Field Lite offers some distinct advantages for the field user," said Mike Heutmaker, product manager, Kontron Mobile Computing. "Unlike CE-based or thin-client based handheld devices, the Field Lite delivers the performance and functionality of a desktop PC with the advantage of a small, light, compact form. With four PC Card slots, it also offers the flexibility that customers want and compatibility with the technologies they need to use today."

New Field Lite features include a 400 MHz AMD K6-2 processor, a full-size docking station with two battery chargers and several configurable bays, Windows 2000 support and an option for up to 256 MB of RAM (standard is 128 MB). Weighing in at a light 2.6 kg (5.7 lbs), the Field Lite is a full-featured, Windows-capable, COTS PC built for applications such as click-and-point data collection, inventory management and remote, wireless communications. With a 6.4-inch, sunlight-readable display, it can be used indoors or outdoors to collect and analyze data in the field without requiring the user to physically transport the data back to an office or base location.
