Kontron First ECT Manufacturer to Achieve UL Certification on COMs Products

Export for OEM Customers Eased Thanks to COMs UL Certification

SAN DIEGO – July 24, 2006 – Kontron announced its achievement of Underwriters Laboratories certification for all of the company’s Computer-On-Modules products. By receiving the UL certification, Kontron has attained a new milestone in quality management. Kontron provides OEMs with significantly more security in the selection of appropriate COMs while considerably simplifying the procedure for their own UL certification.

Until recently, UL certificates accepted in the United States and Canada, as well as in other parts of the world, were primarily available just for systems. Now, with the implementation of UL certification for COMs, this quality assurance extends to even more embedded application designers. Kontron has obtained the UL certificate – UL 60950-1:2003 First Edition and CSA C22.2 No. 60950-1-03 First Edition from April 1, 2003 – in a large-scale validation process for all COM products following the the ETX®, ETX 3.0, ETXexpress™/COM Express, microETXexpress™, DIMM-PC®, and X-board™ standards. According to research carried out by the Kontron, it is the first provider to UL-certify its COMs. This reinforces Kontron’s leadership position in the COM market and strengthens an already high-level of customer orientation.

UL certification for Kontron COM products is especially attractive for OEMs offering solutions in Canada and the U.S. because, apart from the EN60950 certificate that Kontron has long held, a UL certificate is the absolute seal of quality for the these regional markets. By being able to provide OEMs a UL certificate, Kontron can further guarantee customers that when it comes time for them to obtain their own UL certification that the already-certified COMs will reduce the time-to-market for their final product.
