At the field, or edge level, data is collected by industrial computers, e.g. by gateways, which process, filter, analyze and act on these data in real-time right at the device.
Edge, fog and cloud applications demand increasing computing power. The interfaces to sensors or machines often require non-standard solutions. Especially in smaller machines, space is limited or restricted in some dimension and need a special solution.
Today, the connection from the sensor device to the embedded cloud takes place via real-time data communication, on sensor and edge level - for example Industrial Ethernet or fieldbuses - and gateways , which provide the transformation of real time data into the informational area.

Kontron AG expands its global presence and footprint in Asia-Pacific with Japan office opening
Tokyo, Japan, July 15, 2014 – Kontron AG, a leading global provider of Embedded Computer Technology (ECT), has today opened a Japan office in Tokyo. In this context, Mr. Satoru Hayashi, a seasoned Executive serving the global IT industry, has been appointed General Manager to drive Kontron’s ECT activities in Japan. Kontron has made the firm commitment to re-enter the Japanese market by establishing a local team to serve customers and strengthen its relationship with local sales partners.
“Japanese companies are focusing increasingly on their core competency, reducing their time-to-market and accelerating time-to-revenue”, says Rolf Schwirz, CEO of Kontron AG. “This is the right time for Kontron to re-establish a local team and offer its trusted, off-the-shelf products, especially in the areas of Avionics, Transportation, Defense, Communications and Industrials.”
Kontron will extend the implementation of these domains with key enterprise leaders in Japan as well as strengthen the relationship with its sales partner network.
