Kontron Communications breaks performance barrier with Dual Gigahertz, Dual Gigabit Ethernet PCI/ISA Engine

Kontron offers embedded market the Teknor PCI-990, a single board computer (SBC) capable of powering high-end, mission-critical datacom/telecom applications

Montreal (Canada), September 21, 2001 - Kontron Communications Inc., the wholly-owned operating company of Kontron Embedded Computers, announced today the availability of the Teknor PCI-990, an SBC that delivers ground breaking dual gigahertz CPU processing power, 64-bit bus support and a choice of dual Ethernet port options including gigabit performance on either copper or fiber optic. The uniqueness of this board design introduces what customers are ready to exploit - an ultra performance, full-length SBC that is clearly the most ideal processing engine for any mission-critical application in the CTI, high-end Internet security and data center environments.

New power/performance standard
The Teknor PCI-990 features the ultra-high performance of dual Intel Pentium III processors at 1.26 GHz each, up to 4GB of SDRAM memory, 64-bit bus support and dual 100Base-Tx or dual 1000Base-(T or S/LX). The option for dual gigabit Ethernet is achieved by incorporating a custom Kontron Gigabit Ethernet Mezzanine which features an Intel 82544 Ethernet controller with either copper- or optic-type interfaces.

Additional onboard features include optional dual-port Ultra160 SCSI LVDS/SE, 2 EIDE hard disk interfaces, Compact Flash module support, three USB ports, two serial ports (one configurable as Infrared/RS232/422/485 via software), floppy disk controller, board monitoring controller, CPU temperature monitoring, and board temperature sensor and fan speed. The Teknor PCI-990 supports various operating systems including Windows NT, Windows 2000, Linux, UNIX.

Integrate with Kontron¿s innovative platforms
The Teknor PCI-990 may be combined with Kontron¿s line of high performance PCI platforms, particularly the 6U Teknor CoreVox, ideal for most computer telephony applications as well as data center solutions with high performance and high availability requirements. The Teknor CoreVox provides maximum performance and complete redundancy, featuring four hot-swap front-removable fans, six hot-swap SCSI drives, RAID level 5 support and redundant hot-swap power supplies.

OEM developers who also require a high-end Internet security PCI system in a 1U form factor may take advantage of the Teknor Dreamspeed platform and combine it with the Teknor PCI-990 and other PCI security hardware to greatly accelerate the processing power required for such functions as data-packet encryption/de-encryption.
