At the field, or edge level, data is collected by industrial computers, e.g. by gateways, which process, filter, analyze and act on these data in real-time right at the device.
Edge, fog and cloud applications demand increasing computing power. The interfaces to sensors or machines often require non-standard solutions. Especially in smaller machines, space is limited or restricted in some dimension and need a special solution.
Today, the connection from the sensor device to the embedded cloud takes place via real-time data communication, on sensor and edge level - for example Industrial Ethernet or fieldbuses - and gateways , which provide the transformation of real time data into the informational area.

Kontron AG generates revenue in excess of EUR 130 million in the fourth quarter
2009 Group revenue around EUR 465 million, in line with expectations / Executive Board to propose continued dividend payout
Eching, Munich, January 18, 2010. Kontron AG achieved revenue in excess of EUR 130 million in the fourth quarter of the 2009 financial year. With this performance, the last three months of 2009 represented the strongest quarter of the financial year elapsed. Group revenue of around EUR 465 million was in line with forecast expectations. The Executive Board will propose a continued dividend payment to both the Supervisory Board and the General Meeting of Shareholders.
With a look to the current financial year, Kontron AG CEO, Ulrich Gehrmann, continues to anticipate a "level business trend". Mr. Gehrmann commented as follows: "We are currently not assuming any major moves on the upside or on the downside."
