INTRODUCING ROHS COMPLIANT COMPUTER-ON-MODULE REPLACEMENT FOR AMD® GEODE GX1

Kontron ETX-LX - The Lead-Free Drop-In Solution

FREMONT, CA -- April 4, 2006 -- Kontron, a leading embedded computer technology company, today announced the availability of the ETX-LX computer-on-module (COM) built around the energy-efficient AMD® Geode® LX800 processor (500MHz). The ETX-LX is designed as a 100 percent drop in replacement for solutions affected by the AMD® Geode® GX1 obsolescence. The ETX-LX offer higher performance at the same low power consumption as the GX1 based systems. It also takes advantage of the new ETX 3.0 definition that allow for 2 Serial ATA ports without violating the existing ETX pin usage.

Kontron´s ETX-LX module is power efficient and offers 4x USB 2.0, integrated graphics support care of the AMD Geode CS5536 chipset, and supports up to 512MB of DDR SODIMM memory. Supported graphics resolutions are CRT up to SXGA and LCD up to UXGA. TV-out also is available. The ETX-LX also features 10/100-BaseTx Ethernet and two serial TTL interfaces. Like its predecessor featuring the (now obsolete) Geode GX1 CPU, the new ETX-LX module also features an onboard CompactFlash socket (up to 8GB) for the integration of non-rotating storage media. Ultra66 DMA storage media can be added by way of the two IDE ports. All other onboard features are consistent with the rest of Kontron´s ETX product family. The ETX-LX is designed to meet the RoHS directive and low emissions to ease integration.

Kontron anticipates having sample ETX-LX modules available by the end of April with prices starting at $195 in small quantities. Kontron is showing this new COM product and others during this week´s Embedded Systems Conference in San Jose, California, at the McEnery Convention Center (booth #536).
