Dual-Core Kontron ETX-CD Coming Soon

New High-end Module to Extend ETX Solutions for Embedded Applications

SAN DIEGO, November 8, 2006 – With the upcoming launch of the Kontron ETX-CD Computer-On-Module at the upcoming autumn European trade fairs, Electronica and PLC/IPC/Drives, Kontron emphasizes its commitment to the long-term availability of the ETX® standard. The Kontron ETX standard, established in 2000, recently received a “refresh” and upgrade to version 3.0 enhancing the supported interfaces while still keeping the design 100 percent backward compatible with previous module revisions. This development ensures long-term support of ETX and that OEM customers do not have to make even the smallest change in wiring on existing baseboard designs. Built around the Intel® Core™ Duo processor, the Kontron ETX-CD is the high-end COM for embedded designs requiring PCI, ISA, SATA and USB 2.0 as well as all standard ETX interfaces.

The upcoming Kontron ETX-CD module is based on the Intel Core Duo processor (up to 2.0GHz) and the mobile Intel® 945GM Express chipset. Key features of this new ETX 3.0 module include:
- Support for up to 2 GB DDR2 S0DIMM
- 2x SerialATA for high-speed drives
- 4x USB 2.0 for the integration of fast peripherals
- Graphics, audio and more.

Kontron anticipates having sample Kontron ETX-CD modules available for evaluation in January 2007 with pricing targeted to begin at $925 in small quantities. Board support packages (BSPs) for current operating systems such as Windows XP Embedded and Linux will be available for download in the near future.
