Compactness taken to the limit

BOX-PC WITH INTEGRAL 24V POWER SUPPLY

Eching, Germany, June 26th, 2002 - Due to its low dimensions, the new compact PC, the SC-35 from Kontron, is opening up another field of applications: Possible uses range from automation technology as miniature control computers in machines, through to use as a firewall and integrated computer platforms in cameras for video monitoring.

Although the Wallmount Box-PC has a small form factor, the 24 V DC power supply unit is integrated into the housing of the SC-35. And despite the compact design, the PC can be operated up to an ambient temperature of 55?C - without a fan. The compact PC can fulfil these extremely high temperature requirements, because Kontron has realized a thermal concept based on heat pipes: A process with which the computer transfers the dissipated power from the hot spots to a heatsink integrated into the housing.

The SC-35 is based on the low power processor, NxGeode 300 MHz. It provides up to 128 MB RAM and features a free PC/104 slot. In addition, the SC has compact Flash or microdrive support available.

Also, the SC-35 need not be shy of its range of interfaces: Apart from two USB ports, two 10/100 Base T Ethernet connections and an optional PS/2 and keyboard connection are provided. The VGA and one COM connection are supplied as standard.

The Box-PC can be mounted in position using a DIN mounting rail or also using the wall-mounting principle.

The Wallmount Box PC SC-35 is available from July 2002.
